Get to Know Your Orange Man: #87, TE Luke Benson

Could we be looking at an intriguing future offensive weapon?

NCAA Football: Syracuse at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Luke Benson

Position: Tight End

Year: Freshman

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 210 lbs.

Hometown: Chalfont, PA

High School: Central Bucks West

2018 stats: Caught 12 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns. Also played on the defensive line.

2019 projections: Benson seems like a guy who will be utilized as a practice squad player this season. His size and speed could make him an appealing red zone target and maybe in the not too distant future.

How’d he get here?: Chose the Syracuse Orange over offers from the Temple Owls, Army Black Knights and a number of Ivy League schools.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars from 24/7 and ESPN while Rivals only gave him two.

Money quote: Luke feels the Syracuse offense is a good fit for his talents.

“I’m more of a vertical, athletic type,” he told the Intelligencer. “I’m not the biggest bruiser. The fast pace suits me. I think I’ll fit in well with their offense.”

Tweets of wonder: Mostly retweets but sometimes the simple things are the best

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?:

The Royal Tenenbaums” tells the story about an eccentric family dealing with the return of the father who abandoned them. It featured Luke Wilson as Richie Tenenbaum a tennis prodigy who was in love with his adopted sister. Dino would want it to serve as an example for what a family shouldn’t do to one another.

Interesting nugget o’ interest: Luke competed in the 100m dash for Central Bucks West clocking a 10.52 which would have been a top 20 time in the ACC last Spring.
