Get to Know Your Orange Man: #95, DE Jason Muñoz

The incoming frosh looks to try and make a name for himself in camp.

NCAA Football: Syracuse at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Jason Muñoz

Position: Defensive end

Year: Freshman

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 255

Hometown: Hollywood, Fla.

High School: St. Thomas Aquinas

2018 stats: As a senior, Muñoz tallied 21 tackles, five for a loss, including three sacks.

2019 projections: Though highly touted, Muñoz likely will still need to bide his time on a defensive line that has some quality depth this year. You may see him use the four-game rule and get a redshirt season in in 2019, setting the stage for some increased time in a wide open 2020 campaign.

How’d he get here?: Muñoz was a late flip from the Miami Hurricanes. He also had offers from Missouri, Pitt, Boston College and Maryland.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars from 247, ESPN and Rivals.

Money quote: Muñoz’s take on Coach Nick Monroe who was his recruiter —

“It was just how genuine he was. He was really outgoing. I could tell, and I could sense it. For me, I base a lot of my decisions for football according to the energy I feel. The energy I felt from coach Monroe was nothing like I felt at Miami. It just felt genuine and real. I could tell he had my best interest at heart and really wanted me.”

Tweets of wonder: He’s a frosh, so.... commitment tweet!

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: He may not be able to control fish, but 2018’s Aquaman starred Jason Momoa. It was good for a DC joint and, well, he can control fish.

Interesting nugget o’ interest: The powerhouse high school that Munoz went to also spawned the likes of Michael Irvin and Giovanni Bernard among many others. The pedigree of STA is quite insane.

Let’s get a good look at ya: Here’s Jason’s highlight reel.
