Get to Know Your Orange Man: #3, CB Christopher Fredrick

One of the main reasons for the secondary resurgence returns for his senior year.

NCAA Football: Central Michigan at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Christopher Fredrick

Position: Cornerback

Year: (Redshirt) Senior

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 198

Hometown: Conley, Ga.

High School: Cedar Grove

2018 stats: Fredrick started all 13 games for the Syracuse Orange. He tallied 56 tackles on the year, good for fifth on the team. Snagged three interceptions on the year, good enough for second behind Andre Cisco on the year. His consistent play over the season led to five games of more than five tackles.

2019 Projections: With a lot of pieces to the puzzle in the secondary returning, Fredrick looks to continue to be the anchor he turned into at corner last season. He’ll be a leader and one of the starting cornerbacks in what should be a strength for the defense this year.

How’d he get here?: Fredrick committed blindly after Syracuse offered. He also held offers from Mississippi State, Minnesota, Cincinnati, and a smattering of others.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars all around.

Money quote: Fredrick talked about his experience in 2018. It’s going to be more of the same this season. —

“It’s like a whole different role for me,” Fredrick said after practice Thursday. “I’m basically the oldest guy in the room now so I can’t just do me and keep it going. I’ve got to bring other guys along.”

Tweets of wonder: Would definitely trust Julian on this one. Fredrick very well could push for all-conference honors this year (he was third-team according to Athlon this preseason).

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: With the deep cuts from before Fredrick was born, we’ll be opting for The Princess Bride, the 1987 classic starring Fred Savage. However, I do doubt that prior to every snap, you hear the corner utter “my name is Christopher Fredrick, you killed my father, prepare to die.”

Interesting nugget o’interest: His nickname is Frizzle, as was learned within the last year or so. That just gets us thinking about the Magic School Bus, though.

Let’s get a look at ya: He got the ACC Top Plays treatment this season —
