The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball program has extended a scholarship offer to class of 2022 guard Zion Cruz, per Mike Waters of Syracuse.com.
A 6-foot-2 guard out of New Jersey, Cruz plays his high school ball at Hudson Catholic and runs with the PSA Cardinals on the AAU circuit. He’s rated No. 20 in his class by ESPN and also holds offers from Auburn, Bryant, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s and UCLA and UConn.
Cruz received his Syracuse offer on Friday before participating in elite camp this weekend, along with his teammates Mac Etienne and Kyle Cuffe on top of other Syracuse targets in Lance Ware, Dajuan Wagner, Donovan Clingan and JJ Starling.
Also at Syracuse’s camp this past weekend was class of 2020 wing Andre Jackson, who recently broke down his top schools. A secured commitment from Jackson would put the Orange in good shape beyond 2020.
With Woody Newton already committed and the possibility of every player on the 2019-20 roster returning for another year, the coaching staff could shift its focus to recruiting the 2021 and 2022 classes (should Jackson commit).
