Syracuse football film review: Episode 5 of ‘La Familia’

What are the Orange up to this week?

In case you missed it, Syracuse Orange football is joining the ranks of Netflix and Facebook in the #content game, creating a web series called ‘La Familia.” You can check out episode 1, episode 2, episode 3, & episode 4 recaps here. Our episode 5 review is below!

We open with lineman Airon Servais at 6:46 a.m. as he heads out to practice. Because student-athlete.

Anyways, Servais drops a nugget that all players HAVE to be taped or braced up for any practice, and he has Tim Pike do it every time. What follows is a great look at some veteran leadership in a practice drill.

Our All-American is a golfer! Well kinda, if I had to guess based on a swing that could use some work. Special teams gets some time on the Drumlins driving range, presumably trying to hit the poor cart guy. (As a former Drumlins cart guy, this is not fun) It seems like these guys like to hit the sticks when they can, and someone needs to give Szymt some lessons.

“Why can’t I be the best Jarveon?” That’s the quote of the episode. Howard talks about how starting in seventh grade, he committed himself to being a football player with powerlifting and extra drills. Howard’s quote comes from moving from comparing himself to other star running backs to looking at being the best he can be, and if that’s not a metaphor for Syracuse Football I don’t know what is.

It’s photo day and TD13 is ready to go with some A+ content. He knows that today is giving people like us GIFs and pics we can use while he’s throwing bombs. But seriously, the uniforms look amazing, and the multimedia crew Syracuse has assembled gets to show off.

That’s all for episode 5. Are you liking the series so far? Want to see it continued during the season? Let us know in the comments.
