The first AP Poll of the 2019 football season is here, and the Syracuse Orange find themselves in the top 25. The Orange come in at No. 22, the same ranking they have in the Preseason Coach’s Poll.

This is the Orange’s first time in the Preseason Poll since 1998, when they were No. 17, and the 15th time they’ve been ranked in the AP Preseason Poll in program history (for reference). Notably, in six of those, SU would not finish the season ranked at all. However, the lowest ranking (25th in 1991) wound up with an 11th-ranked squad to end the year.

Clemson is the only other ACC school ranked coming in at No. 1, and the only Orange opponent to appear in the poll or receiving votes category. ACC Coastal teams Miami, Virginia, and Virginia Tech all received votes as well.

Overall, not a huge shock, but a fun boost to the fanbase as we continue to make room for fans aboard the FOOTBALL SCHOOL bandwagon.

#DISLOYALIDIOTS:

  • Too many to list them all at the moment. But 21 different ballots just went ahead and left the Orange off.
