Name: Matthew Bergeron
Position: Offensive line
Year: Freshman
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 311 lbs.
Hometown: Victoriaville, Quebec, Canada
High School: Cégep de Thetford
2018 stats: Was named the Offensive Player of the Year for his division in Quebec as a tackle. Blocked for an offense that rushed for over 250 yards per game.
2019 projections: All signs point to a redshirt. Bergeron is a big body that can be molded though a college strength and conditioning program, and should be a solid contributor in the future.
How’d he get here?: After impressing at Syracuse’s camp in the summer, the offer came in from Coach Lynch and Bergeron said yes. It was his only offer, though that’s not at all unheard of for Canadian recruits. They tend to be more of a diamond in the rough situation on the recruiting trail.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars all around. He was noted as the #2 overall Canadian prospect as well.
Money quote: On his recruitment with Coach Cavanaugh —
“We met at the camp I did in June and (offensive line) coach (Mike) Cavanaugh really loved me,” Bergeron said of SU. “So after the camp, I started talking with them. About one month later, they called me and offered me a scholarship.”

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: Tip this one off with War Games starring Matthew Broderick. Literally for no other reason than it’s a classic.
Interesting nugget o’ interest: Bergeron is the first player from his high school to recieve a scholarship offer from an American university.
Let’s get a good look at ya: Here’s his senior highlights —
