Get to Know Your Orange Man: #78, OL Darius Tisdale

Darius may very well be starting on the line in a few weeks.

Name: Darius Tisdale

Position: Offensive Line

Year: (Redshirt) Sophomore

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 295

Hometown: South Brunswick, N.J.

High School: South Brunswick (via Lackawanna C.C.)

2018 stats: Played on the offensive line for the sixth-ranked Lackawanna C.C. squad that won the El Toro Bowl.

2019 projections: Could very well start depending on how the rest of the line shakes out. The current depth chart lists him as the backup left tackle to Carlos Vettorello. However, depending on Sam Heckel’s health and Airon Servais moving to tackle, that could open up a guard spot for Tisdale to slot into instead.

How’d he get here?: Arkansas, Pitt, Rutgers and West Virginia (what are you doing here, Hogs?) all offered, but Syracuse’s Mike Lynch and Mike Cavanaugh ultimately made the winning sell to bring Tisdale aboard.

What’d recruiting sites say?: ESPN and 247Sports both said three stars, and he was 145th in the JUCO composite rankings for 2019.

Money quote: Nate Mink talks offensive line position battles on Syracuse.com and had this to say —

“Syracuse brought in two new tackles this summer in graduate transfer Ryan Alexander and junior-college transfer Darius Tisdale. This is the most important position battle to watch in camp. Syracuse needs to replace both tackles off last year’s 10-win team. If Alexander and Tisdale emerge as game-ready, that could allow the staff to keep Servais at center and feel really good about its depth.”

Tweets of wonder: Perhaps Syracuse saw this tweet initially?

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: Darius McCrary (of “Family Matters” fame) also appeared in 1987’s Big Shots as Scam. In the film, Scam ends up becoming friends with Obie in Chicago after Obie loses his father. The two then search for Scam’s own dad, and wind up mixed with the police, criminals and more.

Interesting nugget o’ interest: Syracuse football is all about family, and that’s meant literally here. Darius is the cousin of former Orange (and current Arizona Cardinals) running back Donte Strickland.

Let’s get a good look at ya: Here are some glimpses of him from last season with Lackwanna C.C.
