The Syracuse Orange women’s basketball program is enjoying the best stretch in program history and that success is translating to the professional ranks. On Sunday Brittney Sykes of the Atlanta Dream put herself in the WNBA record books with an offensive explosion.
Sykes’ scored 22 of Atlanta’s 23 points in the quarter and ended the game with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Even though the Dream lost the game to the Phoenix Mercury 65-63 Sykes put on quite a show. She must like playing against Phoenix as her WNBA career highs in both points (33) and rebounds (13) have come against the Mercury.
The third-year pro is now averaging 12.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Dream. Brittney has returned to the starting line-up recently as the 3-10 Dream look to get back into playoff contention.
Fans can still vote for Brittney for the WNBA All-Star game as the deadline is July 9th. We know at least one fan who believes Brittney is deserving of the honor.
