Get to Know Your Orange Man:#14 DB Garrett Williams

A North Carolina native with cover skills joins the Orange secondary

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Garrett Williams

Position: Defensive Back

Year: Freshman

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 175 lbs.

Hometown: Harrisburg, N.C.

High School: Hickory Ridge

2019 projections: Williams is behind a lot of talented returners in the defensive backfield but he’ll hope to see some time under the new redshirt rules.

How’d he get here?: Garrett had offers from schools such as the Maryland Terrapins, West Virginia Mountaineers, Air Force Falcons and Army Black Knights before choosing the Syracuse Orange.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars all around.

Money quote: Garrett’s HS coach was a big believer in his skills

“He’s picked up his speed, but his ball skills are unbelievable,” Greiner said. “You’re talking about true covering ability at the corner position, I’d put him above anybody in the state.”

Tweets of wonder: Garrett’s feed is pretty positive and this one stood out

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: Jack Lord was best known as Hawaii Five-O’s Steve McGarrett but he also appeared in the James Bond film “Dr. No.” Dino wants Garrett to say No early and often to opposing wide receivers during his Syracuse career.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Garrett was also a member of Hickory Ridge’s track and field team as he worked to improve his speed.
