Boeheim’s Army apparently isn’t done adding players just yet for The Basketball Tournament (TBT). According to Syracuse.com’s Donna Ditota, the team largely consisting of Syracuse Orange basketball alums is set to add Andrew White III... provided Boeheim’s Army gets to the 3,000-vote plateau by next Monday, that is. Or they can just pay $3,000. The team currently has 2,280 votes, as of this writing.
White played in the NBA Summer League this year with the New York Knicks, but this latest opportunity should provide even more exposure. Per Donna’s story, Jim and Juli Boeheim both reached out to White to encourage him to join, which probably made it a no-brainer for him.
Adding White is a huge boost to Boeheim’s Army’s shooting capabilities, bringing in a strong outside shooter to keep up with what’s become an increasingly three point-focused event. Michael Gbinije was also added this week, while the team sports shooters like John Gillon, Eric Devendorf, Jordan Crawford and Brandon Triche to help make them a greater threat from beyond the arc than they were last summer. Gillon and White played together during the 2016-17 season, as you’ll probably recall.
White’s addition would’ve been welcome either way, though the main reason for it is potential injuries and/or lack of availability from guys like Triche and Chris McCullough.
Boeheim’s Army will tip off TBT against We Are D3 on Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. ET. The first two rounds will be played at Onondaga Community College, and will be televised on ESPN2.
