Name: Markenzy Pierre
Position: Running Back
Year: (Redshirt) Sophomore
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 214
Hometown: Orlando, Fla.
High School: Liberty
2018 stats: Redshirt season means no major stats, but he did log eight rushes for 35 yards (4.4 YPC), over the course of his four games. Thanks new redshirt rule! He did get a good bit of run on special teams as a true freshman, appearing in 11 games, and rushed for 89 yards on 25 carries.
2019 projections: On the latest depth chart, Pierre isn’t listed in the running back slot. It’s going to be an uphill battle to get any carries, with a senior in Moe Neal and Abdul Adams, the transfer from Oklahoma who is a junior (eligibility wise) in front of him. Jarveon Howard was also listed ahead on that two-deep. Similar to his freshman campaign, you may see Pierre feature on special teams.
How’d he get here?: Syracuse was the only Power Five school with an offer out to him, though there was interest. He flipped quickly from Western Kentucky after the offer.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars all around.
Money quote: Some high praise from his high school coach, Cory Johns, in an interview with Syracuse.com
“This year, I don’t think anyone’s tackled him 1-on-1 all year long,” Johns said. “I don’t think anyone’s gotten close.”

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: Pierre is from Orlando, Florida. Had to go a little family friendly on this one and suggest an option from the House of Mouse. Disney debuted their hit Mulan to acclaim in 1998, the year Markenzy was born. It’s roundabout, but I think it checks out.
Interesting nugget o’interest: Pierre was the first football player out of Liberty High School to play Division I. It seems crazy out of a Florida school, but it seems that it’s a thing. Congrats to Markenzy on leaving his legacy.
