Name: Anthony Red
Position: Offensive guard
Year: Freshman
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 283
Hometown: Bloomfield, Conn.
High School: St. Thomas More
2018 stats: Red was a solid offensive line prospect after his senior season. He was the No. 70 overall guard in the class from 247Sports.com. He was also a first team All-Connecticut and All-New England selection.
2019 projections: He got some time in the spring game with the first unit due to injuries. Even so, he’ll likely try and take this year to redshirt and learn the system. Thankfully with the new redshirt rules, he may be able to get a little game action to augment that learning year.
How’d he get here?: Offers from Buffalo, UMass and Temple, but the Syracuse Orange were in early on him before any other P5 schools could sink their teeth in.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Consensus 3-Star
Money quote: Red put on a good 60 pounds over the course of recruitment. In doing so, he really surprised the Syracuse staff. From an interview with Syracuse.com —
“They were actually shocked when they heard how much weight I put on during the offseason,” Red said during a phone interview. “When I told them I was 230 and now I’m 290, they were just like. ‘How did you do this?’”

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: A Sean Connery classic, The Hunt for Red October. The movie, based on the Tom Clancy novel, about a defecting Soviet submarine captain, is worth a watch in any time or place.
Interesting nugget o’interest: Before prep school, Red may have had a little Orange influence, as he attended Bloomfield, the former high school of a man you may have heard of... Syracuse legend Dwight Freeney.
