Early over/under win total for Syracuse football set laughably low

NCAA Football: Florida State at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

We’ve already seen that early betting lines doesn’t necessarily buy into the Syracuse Orange football team as heavily as the sport’s media does. FanDuel, in particular, installed SU as an early underdog against Clemson (fair), as well as Pitt and NC State (both more questionable).

Well, FanDuel’s at it again, and this time they’re just handing you free money. The site set Syracuse’s over/under win total at just five to start off betting — and that number’s already climbed to 5.5 based on activity on the over. CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee called it the best bet in college football.

Obviously lines like this aren’t necessarily the projection for wins as much as the win total most likely to generate action. Same goes for game lines. It’s a good barometer for perception, sure. But most of the time, it’s based on what’s going to generate action on both the over and under.

This isn’t that, however, as the Orange are projected to be a top-25 team and even if they slip from that lofty potential, they’re still a VERY likely bowl squad — meaning six wins at the very least are on the table. Anyone betting the under on the initial line is more than just a non-believer. They’re pretty much trolling SU, themselves and their wallet.

So go make some money. And/or read the rest of your Syracuse-related links below:

2019 ACC win total picks, predictions: Clemson set with big number, Syracuse vastly underrated (CBS Sports)

5 wins: I had to read this 10 times to make sure it isn’t a typo. It isn’t a typo. Syracuse was one magical drive by Clemson backup quarterback Chase Brice from upsetting the Tigers and winning the ACC Atlantic last year, and it returns four of their top five receivers and a quarterback in Tommy DeVito who is one of the most highly-touted prospects to sign with the Orange in recent history.

“DeLisha is among the most decorated women’s basketball players to ever play the game,” Orange head coach Quentin Hillsman said in a statement. “She’s an amazing communicator and has head coaching experience at the division one level. She’s a home run hire. We are very fortunate to have her join our staff.”

ACC Offseason Reset: Bluebloods reload; Louisville’s back; can Virginia repeat? (NBC Sports)

10. SYRACUSE: The Orange lose Tyus Battle, Oshae Brissett, Frank Howard and Paschal Chukwu. That’s a lot of talent to replace. With the likes of Jalen Carey, Buddy Boeheim, Joe Girard and Elijah Hughes on the roster this season, I expect the Orange to be better offensively than they have in the recent past.

You’ll hear him open up about how he made it through the Lebanese Civil War (which started in the 1970s), how he signed at college basketball powerhouse Syracuse University as a complete unknown in the U.S., how he became the Heat’s first international star, and how he cemented his legacy within Miami’s nightlife scene as South Beach became one of the most popular destinations in the world.

“I am very interested in Syracuse,” Case said. “It is a strong academic school, which is important to me, and Coach Babers and his staff are definitely building something special with the football program.” Looking forward, Case said he has no visits scheduled, but does plan to attend a few camps at Ivy League schools.
