As appeared to be the case for weeks, no Syracuse Orange players were selected in Thursday night’s NBA Draft. That makes it two straight years without an SI player getting picked — the first time that’s happened in two decades.
We’ll await news of where both Tyus Battle and Oshae Brissett sign as undrafted free agents, but both should probably wind up on Summer League rosters soon. Frank Howard could also get a call and perhaps earn a G League spot over the course of the summer.
For as much as it’s disappointing for the players and fans to not hear their names called, it’s potentially a better situation at the end of the day. Now Brissett and Battle can pick the best fit for them that could yield the most likely opportunity to make a roster beyond this summer.
Good luck to Oshae, Tyus and Frank (and hey, maybe Paschal Chukwu too, if a team’s looking for a shot blocker) as they hope to make the NBA this offseason. We’ll post some new articles around signings as they occur.
