With less than 100 days until the start of the season we want to spend the time getting everyone in the proper frame of mind before kick-off. What better way then to embrace debate and we’re going to do so by giving college football a transfer market like professional soccer.
In order to keep some sense of structure to this hypothetical the rules are we get to pick one player from every other ACC school that we would add to next year’s Syracuse Orange roster. We’re going to break this up over several days and we’ll go in alphabetical order to avoid any additional #Disrespekt.
Check out Part 1 here
Steve Haller: Kenny Cooper, C: Airon Servais has manned center for Syracuse for the past two years. Since it appears he’s moving out of that spot, SU could really use the help in the middle with 3 of last year’s 5 offensive linemen lost to graduation.
Brandon Ross: Wesley Wells, K - I’ll stick to special teams since no one else on the roster really jumps at you as a must-have and I’m not picking two centers. Szmyt still happens, but if he can’t go for some reason, Wells hasn’t missed a kick in his career, 9/9 FG and 39/39 PATs.
Kevin Wall: Pressley Harvin III, P- Syracuse doesn’t really need a punter but I’m not turning down the chance to have Sterling and Pressley as a punting duo. That’s got some great off-field content potential for sure.
John Cassillo: Kenny Cooper, C:
SH: Chatarius “Tutu” Atwell, WR - Atwell isn’t going to be your big possession guy at 5’8”, but he’s got the speed and athleticism to make things happen. Averaging 16.9 yards per reception on top of that skillset will get you noticed even quicker.
BR:Amonte Caban- DL: He’s one of the leading returners on the defensive side of the ball for the Cardinals, racking up 50 tackles and a pair of sacks in the 2018 season. While Syracuse is already very good on the edge with Kendall Coleman and Alton Robinson, adding even more depth behind them would make for an even more potent pass rush.
KW:Dejmi Dumervil-Jean, DL: A 6’5 378 lb defensive lineman out of St. Thomas Aquinas HS would look nice helping the Syracuse interior. He could help the duo of Kendall Coleman and Alton Robinson find more space to get to the quarterback in 2019.
JC: Dez Fitzpatrick, WR:
SH: Shaquille Quarterman, LB- On top of the stats from last season, he’s a very solid cover linebacker, which is a necessity and still a big question mark for the Orange this season.
BR: Shaquille Quarterman, LB- He’s been terrorizing the ACC every single season he’s played for the Hurricanes. Quarterman is the kind of defensive firecracker any defense could use, especially SU’s considering the existing linebacking corps.
KW:Shaquille Quarterman, LB- Quarterman has started all three seasons racking up over 80 tackles in each. He could anchor the Syracuse defense in 2019.
JC: Shaquille Quarterman, LB
SH: Charlie Heck, OT - Being able to bring in an experienced and quality tackle to a group of mostly unproven lineman would be a boon. Much like Koda Martin this year, Heck would provide an All-ACC level of talent and immediate impact.
BR: Charlie Heck, OT
KW:Jason Strowbridge, DT- I’m loading up on some interior defensive lineman because I think depth there is crucial.
JC: Charlie Heck, OT
Your turn now. Who would you pick from these four schools?
We’ll be back tomorrow to finish this series.
