Once again, the Syracuse Orange softball season ends with a close loss in the ACC Tournament. Ninth-seeded SU fell to the N.C. State Wolfpack, 4-3 on Wednesday to end their ACC Tournament hopes and season.
Syracuse fell behind the Pack early, down 3-1 in the first inning. Though they managed to narrow it to 3-2 in the top of the third inning, State scored again in the bottom of the inning to push it to 4-2. SU would put up another run in the top of the fourth, but never scored the tying run.
Neither team had a great day at the plate, with the Orange managing just four hits and NC State only picking up two. An error, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly pushed the Wolfpack’s first three runs across and that would wind up being insurmountable.
Gabby Teran hit one home run for Syracuse, and Alicia Hansen and Alex Acevedo scored the other two runs. Alexa Romero was the lone pitcher for the Orange, striking out seven but walking eight.
Syracuse’s season wraps up the year at 21-32, and 0-5 all-time in the ACC Tournament. It’s the Orange’s worst record by percentage since 2008, when they had the same 21-32 record. Hopefully they’re in for a bounce back next year.
