The Syracuse Orange women’s tennis squad had their 2019 season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse was defeated by the defending national champions Stanford Cardinal on Sunday.

Third-ranked Stanford won the doubles point and then took three points in the singles matches to clinch the home victory. The Syracuse point was scored by Sofya Golubovskaya who upset the Cardinal’s Melissa Lord at the No.2 singles. The loss was the 1st ever for Lord in NCAA team competition and ended her 16-match win streak.

The Orange defeated the Wisconsin Badgers in the first round by a score of 4-2 to earn the second NCAA victory in Syracuse program history. Syracuse won the doubles point by sweeping the Badgers and then received singles victories from Miranda Ramirez, Guzal Yusupova and Dina Hegab.

Gabriela Knutson was selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship. She earned a top 16 seed in the competition which will be held May 20-25th in Orlando, Florida. Last year Knutson made it to the Round of 16 and the senior will look to improve upon that finish in her final competition for the Orange.
