It’s been a big week for Boeheim’s Army as they’ve quickly filled out the early portions of their 2019 roster for The Basketball Tournament (TBT). On Thursday, they added the latest name to the list — a player that’s both younger and has participated in the event before.

So do we, and we're hyped that he's BACK for 2019! https://t.co/wa2TDzsBt2
Syracuse.com’s Donna Ditota reports that former Syracuse Orange guard John Gillon returns for 2019 after playing for the squad the last two summers. He’s been a quality outside shooter in previous years, and one of the team’s more reliable scorers in crunch time. His efforts to help get past Team Fancy last season were much appreciated and likely reminded you of some of the one-year Orange player’s better moments playing for Jim Boeheim.
Gillon averaged 10.5 points and 5.4 assists as a fifth-year senior at Syracuse in 2016-17. While the team didn’t make the NCAA Tournament, we’ll always have his game-winner against Duke.
Since leaving SU, Gillon has spent a few years in the G League, suiting up for the Texas Legeds, Erie BayHawks and Greensboro Swarm. He played in 46 games as a member of the Swarm last year, averaging 13.3 points and six assists per game. Gillon also shot 36.3% from outside.
With Gillon on board, that’s now five players already for Boeheim’s Army, including four guards. Gillon joins fellow Orange alums Eric Devendorf, Brandon Triche and Michael Gbinije, plus Chris McCullough, who also played just one year for SU (albeit his freshman season before declaring for the NBA Draft).
At least a few more roster additions to go in the coming weeks. Boeheim’s Army will play the opening rounds in Syracuse this year, from July 26 to 28.
