New school record highlights Syracuse Track during last two days of NCAA Eastern Regionals

No new qualifiers but still some strong performances

FloSports: FloTrack NCAA East Preliminary Round Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange track and field team failed to advance any other athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships but the final two days of the East Regional still produced some strong performances.

Leading the way was the women’s 4x100m relay team which established a new school record time of 44.36 seconds. The team of Eunice Boateng, Dasia Pressley, Alexis Crosby and Cheyenne Trigg finished in 15th place which was far above their 23rd seeding. The entire team returns next year so the Orange will be pushing to take the next step.

Richard Floyd finished his Syracuse career with a 27th place finish in the 110m hurdles. Floyd was only .07 seconds out of the final qualifying position for the next round in Jacksonville.

In the women’s 5000m run Rachel Bonner finished in 20th place with a time of 16:38.14 while in the men’s 5000m Matt Scrape finished his first Syracuse season with a time of 15:05.45 which placed 40th.

So it’s on to Austin for Paige Stoner, Laura Dickinson and Iliass Aouani. We’ll have detailed previews of their chances leading up to the NCAA Championships.
