Welcome to MEGATHREAD Saturday! There are FOUR Syracuse Orange teams in action at the same time today, so we try to give you one place to tune into and talk about all of the action, versus dueling threads that inevitably overlap into the subject matter of one another.
Also at noon, the women’s basketball team faces off with the top-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the ACC Tournament semifinals. Read all about SU’s win over Miami here, plus what you need to know in advance of the rematch with the Irish. The game will be on ESPNU, as well as WatchESPN.
Of course, the men’s basketball game is on at noon as well on CBS, and you can read plenty more on that below.
Last but not least, Syracuse men’s lacrosse aims to best arch rival Johns Hopkins at the Carrier Dome at 1 p.m. ET. Here’s Chris’s preview of the game and the clubs’ storied history against one another. That one’s streaming on ACC Network Extra.
The softball team also faces Wagner at 1:15 p.m. for those interested...
But now back to MBB matters:
How in the world is it already the final ACC basketball game of the 2018-19 regular season? The Syracuse Orange have traversed the Atlantic coast all the way down to South Carolina where it will tip off against the Clemson Tigers momentarily from LittleJohn Coliseum.
Syracuse could stand to benefit from another quadrant one victory, but is playing mostly for NCAA Tournament seeding at this point. Win or lose (and depending on what other teams do), Syracuse will play as the No. 6 or No. 7 in the ACC Tournament this upcoming Wednesday.
Clemson is in dire need of a win and sits squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble. A quadrant two win over Syracuse today could very well put Brad Brownell’s squad on the right side of that bubble come Selection Sunday. Last season, Syracuse beat Clemson at the Carrier Dome in the final ACC game that proved vital for the Orange in making the 2018 tournament.
Either way, this game figures to be close as Clemson is a five point favorite at home today — the over/under is set at 129.5. Syracuse won the first meeting at the Carrier Dome 61-53. If you missed any of our pregame coverage, see that below.
