As we prepare to turn the calendar to April the Syracuse Orange outdoor track and field teams will kick off the 2019 season this weekend. Syracuse will send athletes to three meets: the Florida Relays, Raleigh Relays and Stanford Invitational.

The sprint and hurdle group will go down to Gainesville to compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays hosted by the Florida Gators. The Orange men’s hurdlers led by Matt Moore will be going up against the best track and field athlete in the country Grant Holloway on his home turf. For the Orange women this is an opportunity to jump back into competition against as they get back outdoors.

A group of Syracuse distance runners will be at the Raleigh Relays hosted by the NC State Wolfpack. The Orange will have men and women in the 5k and 10k events in Raleigh and among those running will be Madeleine Davison, Joe Dragon and Dom Hockenbury.

Eight Syracuse athletes will travel out to Palo Alto to compete in the Stanford Invitational to compete against collegiate and professional runners. Last year’s NCAA outdoor steeplechase qualifiers Paige Stoner, Aidan Tooker and Noah Affolder are among those competing at Stanford but Stoner is entered in the 10k event while Tooker and Affolder are running the 5k.

Syracuse will be using the next couple of weeks to get back into competitions as they build towards the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Virginia in May followed by the NCAA Regional meet in Jacksonville. We’ll be tracking all three of this weekend’s meets and providing a recap next week.
