Tyus Battle won’t play for Syracuse vs. Pittsburgh, per report

Welp, things just got a whole lot tougher this evening...

Well, things just got a whole lot more difficult for the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team when they face off against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Wednesday night.

Syracuse.com reports that, according to a source, leading scorer Tyus Battle won’t play against Pitt. He’s still dealing with a bruised hip from the Clemson loss, apparently, and that injury would keep him out for this game and he’s considered doubtful for a potential quarterfinal matchup against Duke should the Orange still manage to beat the Panthers without him.

This is Battle’s first miss start since the 2017-18 season began, and he’s led the Orange in scoring ever since. In two games against Pitt this year, Battle put up 22 and six points, respectively. He’s hit double digits in all but four games this season, including 14 instances putting up 20 points or more.

Losing Battle doesn’t completely dash Syracuse’s hopes to get a win, but it sure doesn’t help matters. We’d already had a complex about the ACC Tournament given the Orange’s struggles to this point (1-4 so far in the event). Dealing with a blow like this certainly won’t help.

Best of luck to Battle in his recovery, and hopefully Syracuse can still pull off a win tonight, so we can feel better about everything.
