Welcome to college football’s 2019 National Signing Day! After adding 17 players during the early signing period in December, the Syracuse Orange are hoping to finish the class strong today. As each player signs, we’ll be posting profiles here on TNIAAM. Next up? Former Terp commit David Summers joins SU after being a long-time Maryland verbal.

Hometown: Trumbull, Conn.

Previous School: St. Joseph

Position: QB

Stats: 6’3”, 205 lbs.

Ratings: Three stars all around

Commitment date: January 27, 2019

Other Offers: Pitt, Rutgers, Buffalo and Maryland, where he was committed for a long time before the coaching change shook things up.

Dino’s projected nickname: Endless Summers, in reference to David’s last name and the 1966 surfing documentary of the same name. Dino’s spent a lot of time in California and Hawaii. He probably appreciates surfing a bit.

Player outlook:

Summers may not come to SU with the plaudits that Tommy DeVito did, but he’s still a three-star passer that was good enough to be Maryland’s guy. Plus, he’s also spent time with DeVito’s QB coach Leon Clarke. He’ll need a year or so to be ready to jump in under center in this system. However, it’s good to bring in another capable passer to back up DeVito with few options behind him on the depth chart after Chance Amie’s transfer. Depending on how the season goes, he’s a candidate to take advantage of the new redshirt rule later on in the year and suit up for a couple games.
