With the early signing period just 10 (!!!) days away, the Syracuse Orange coaching staff has been moving quickly to secure some late commitments, and lock down those already verbally pledged for the class of 2020. On Sunday, a new name was added to the list: three-star wide receiver Damien Alford.

As noted on Twitter, Alford is already a big target, at 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds. Both measures would make him one of the biggest wide receivers on the Orange roster. His 6-foot-5 height makes him the tallest.
Though Alford is currently playing at Hollywood, Fla.’s MacArthur High School, he’s originally from Canada — Quebec — and picked up most of the required credits to reclassify for 2020 there (h/t @CuseNation). So not only does Syracuse continue to grow its pipeline in the Great White North, but also further solidify Florida connections via ace recruiter Nick Monroe.
Alford is just outside the top 100 Florida prospects for 2020, according to 247Sports, and picked the Orange over offers from a slew of Power Five programs: Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Miami, NC State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Rutgers, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington State. So if you’re hyper-focused on who else is offering SU commits, that’s not a bad list at all there.
With Alford’s verbal commitment, that now makes 16 players in this year’s class, with six on offense, nine on defense and one special-teamer. Alford is the second wide receiver, behind athlete Trebor Pena, who made his own pledge recently.
You can check out some highlights from Alford below. Welcome aboard, Damien!
