Early signing period: 2020 DE Leon Lowery signs with Syracuse

Keeping the New Jersey pipeline alive and kicking in 2020.

NCAA Football: Notre Dame vs Syracuse Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to college football’s early signing period! Despite the disappointment on the field this fall the Syracuse Orange are hoping to add key components to get back to bowl eligibility in 2020. As each player signs, we’ll be posting profiles here on TNIAAM. Next up is defensive end Leon Lowery.

Hometown: North Brunswick, N.J.

High School: North Brunswick Township

Position: Defensive end

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 215 lbs.

Commitment date: June 16, 2019

Ratings: Three stars all around.

Other offers: Virginia Tech led the list of suitors looking to sign Lowery. Also in the mix of offers were Indiana, Rutgers, UMass and Temple.

Dino’s predicted nickname: Dino may or may not like classics from 1995, but Bad Boys gave us the glory of Mike Laaaaawrey and I think that might fit the bill for Leon.

Highlights:

Player outlook: At his current size, Lowery may be more in the outside linebacker mold, but if he puts on some weight, his frame could play a weak side defensive end, like a Tyrell Richards. Both positions could use some depth moving forward, but I would say that the hope is that Leon comes in and is able to redshirt, take advantage of the strength and conditioning system and move forward in whatever position that the staff decides to utilize him in.
