GameThread: Syracuse Orange (5-4, 1-1) vs. Georgetown Hoyas (6-3)

What’s a Hoya?

The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team returns to action after a one week hiatus to take on storied rival Georgetown momentarily. Both of these teams are coming off of a win and both have had a week off. The game will tip in just a few minutes (1 p.m. ET official start time) on FOX.

Syracuse fans will be delighted to know that Gus Johnson will be on call today along with Jim Jackson. Andy Katz will be the sideline reporter.

Syracuse comes to Capital One Arena in search of a quality non-conference win, something the Orange have failed to secure at this point. This will be the last remaining opportunity to do so. Georgetown has had a tumultuous month, losing four players in that span (James Akinjo, Josh LeBlanc, Myron Gardner and Galen Alexander).

Still, the Hoyas open as a 3-point favorite here and Ken Pomeroy’s metrics suggest a 75-71 Georgetown win.

The rivalry will tip momentarily and the Orange will finally be rocking script jerseys to boot! Soon you’ll be forced to hear the “Manley Field House is officially closed,” John Thompson line ad nauseam.
