Syracuse Orange women’s basketball head coach Quentin Hillsman has picked up another elite recruit in the class of 2020.
Kamilla Cardoso, a 6-foot-6 post player has committed to the women’s basketball team, as she joins an already loaded class. Cardoso picked the Orange over the likes of big-time programs South Carolina, Mississippi State, and UConn.
According to ESPN, she is the 5th ranked player in the class of 2020 joining Priscilla Williams (ranked 11th) and Faith Blackstone (ranked 91st) as Orange commits ranked in the top 100. This is a huge pickup for Coach Q, as the only post player on the roster currently is junior Amaya Finklea.
Syracuse also has a trio of three star commits with high recruiting grades according to ESPN which include Khamaya Mcneal, Laura Salmeron, and Kiara Fisher (Elmira, NY) — all guards. Syracuse gets much bigger and a lot more athletic with today’s pick up, as the gap between the blue bloods of women’s college basketball and the contenders appears to be closing slightly. It will be interesting to see if Coach Q has any more work to do for this class, or if he sets his sights on the 2021 cycle after today’s big commit.
In other Orange women’s basketball news, Tiana Mangakahia had successful surgery related to her battle with breast cancer, according to the SU women’s basketball Twitter account. The day after the men’s team warmed up in #Tough4T shirts, she has been declared cancer free. TNIAAM’s glad to hear the news, and hope we get to see her back on the court again soon.
