The Syracuse Orange (thankfully) won’t be ruining your upcoming weekend. However, the ACC’s also announced kickoff times for next week’s football action. SU’s road game at the Duke Blue Devils will be at 4 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
As you’re sadly aware, Syracuse is 3-6 (0-5) on the year. Meanwhile, Duke is 4-4 (2-3), though have lost two straight. Following a hot start on offense, the Blue Devils’ attack has cooled down over the last two contests. The run game’s middle of the road, which could be a godsend for SU. Duke’s also collected 21 sacks on the season, which should be at least marginally concerning — if only because of the state of Syracuse’s offensive line (even if improved over the last two weeks).
The Orange last faced Duke in 2014, losing 27-10 in an very ugly game that saw the Blue Devils score 17 in the fourth quarter to finally pull away from a struggling ‘Cuse squad. Duke was ranked that day, interestingly enough. Austin Wilson and Mitch Kimble played quarterback for SU on the afternoon. The Shafer era... good times.
Syracuse has never beaten Duke in football interestingly enough, going 0-3 all time against the Blue Devils. Before the two shared a conference, SU lost in both 1938 and 1939 by a combined score of 54-6. Duke has also won at least eight games in every season these teams have played, so congrats on winning out, I guess, Duke?
Plenty of time to rest up for this one, and potentially implement a whole new defense. Should be interesting, if nothing else.
