Troy Nunes is an Absolute Podcast: Jim Boeheim weighs in on protest, Syracuse vs. Seattle recap

A week of protests against racism on campus, and Jim Boeheim’s response, loomed over two eventful games in their own right during a wild week at SU. Bobby and James discuss.

NCAA Basketball: Colgate at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

While the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team picked up two wins last week, an intense series of events at Syracuse concluded with Jim Boeheim, Buddy Boeheim and Elijah Hughes visiting protestors at the Barnes Center. Syracuse’s basketball team couldn’t avoid the biggest event on campus, Not Again SU, which addressed SU’s largest issues several steps from the Carrier Dome floor.

Jim touched on these issues on campus on Wednesday after the Colgate game, with comments some protestors deemed as undermining the movement. He arrived at Barnes Center on Saturday, with words and pizza to make amends.

While protestors donated the pizza and some questioned a PR move, Boeheim’s sharp criticism of Jalen Carey reflected what he said made him the worst PR guy ever. Boeheim tore into Carey’s play and benched him last week, opening the door for Joe Girard III to join the starting lineup and have a stellar debut against Seattle. The offense scored 89 points and moved better than they had in years, while pulling Marek Dolezaj from his long scoring rut to a 19-point performance.

Is the door open for Carey and others to break into an already-short rotation? How’d we feel about a team that already looks much different than anyone expected? Also, Virginia is probably that good defensively. Bobby Manning and James Szuba discussed it all after a crazy week around the program.
