Syracuse last played in the Gotham Classic in 2012. The Orange dropped its first game of the season in that event, a 83-79 loss to Temple.
The game against LSU means that the Orange will continue to play in New York City on an annual basis. Syracuse returns to The Big Apple this season when it participates in the NIT Tip-Off. That event will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
These games continue to check a lot of boxes for SU. Playing in NYC gives exposure to the program, serves as a benefit for recruiting and it offers the large alumni presence in the city an easy game to attend. Of course, the paycheck is nice, too.
Keep in mind that the ACC Tournament will make its way back to Brooklyn in 2022 as well.
