The 2018 college football season officially comes to an end this evening, as the top two teams in the country clash in the College Football Playoff National Championship... in Santa Clara, Calif. of all places.
You’re familiar with the Clemson Tigers, of course. The Tigers come in as No. 2 team in the nation and hold a 14-0 record on the season. They almost lost to our Syracuse Orange back in September, but somehow pulled the game out and made it here as a result. Had SU won, they would’ve won the ACC’s Atlantic division and Clemson probably wouldn’t be here. Now you’re getting mad. Sorry for bringing it up.
In the other corner is the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, also 14-0 and without much challenge all season save the SEC Championship Game. Alabama beat Georgia in last year’s title game, and defeated Clemson two years ago as well to win it all.
There’s also a theory going in the Bay Area that SU is in town instead. Let’s just run with it.
Conversation I just heard among two hotel employees here: “No, no, no...this is the COLLEGE championship game. It’s Alabama versus Syracuse. Really big deal.”

These teams — Alabama and Clemson — have faced each other in the College Football Playoff for the past three years. Alabama’s won two of three — including last year’s semifinal matchup and the 2016 championship. Clemson won the other in the championship game. You may or may not be annoyed by this, depending on how you feel about the Tigers and our internet rivalry with them.
ANYWAY: If you’re watching tonight, we’ll be here probably rooting for Alabama unless you have some weird #goacc pride thing at this point that compels you to root for Clemson. Game starts at 8 p.m. ET from Levi’s Stadium. You can watch on ESPN/WatchESPN for the regular feed, though there are 16 other nonsensical views as part of the MEGACAST. Coaches Film Room is not one of them because they don’t believe in anything good in this world.
Leave your pre-, in- and post-game below, and go team that’s probably not wearing orange.
