The Syracuse Orange track and field teams officially started their season last month but with finals and the semester break it’s more of a pre-season. Last week several Syracuse athletes went to the Armory in New York City to compete in the Ramapo Opener.

Junior Aviana Goode led the way with victories in the 60m hurdles and high jump at the meet. Goode ran the final of the hurdles in a time of 8.83 to cruise to the win. Her winning high jump was 5’7” (1.7 meters) which was two inches ahead of the runner-up. The Syracuse 4x400m relay did not finish their race

For the men, Matt Moore took first in the 60m hurdles in a time of 7.83 which is 12th in the country this season. Richard Floyd took 2nd in 8.04 with Chevis Armstead 5th (8.30) and Andrew Aguilera 6th (8.37). Syracuse will need this group to continue to provide depth and scoring through the ACC Championships. Freshman Brandon Williams took 4th in the 400m in a time of 52.01 while teammate Jalen Racine was 8th in 53.38

Syracuse is back in action this weekend at the Upstate Challenge hosted by the Cornell Big Red. We should continue to see the sprint/hurdle group and some of the distance runners will likely make their season debuts. Check back with us next week for the recap.
