Even though there may have been some controversy, Syracuse Orange quarterback Eric Dungey’s Friday night in Kalamazoo, Mich. was one to remember. Dungey set a school QB record with 200 rushing yards in the Orange’s 55-42 win over the Western Michigan Broncos.
That performance netted Dungey the Quarterback of the Week honors from the ACC. The ACC highlights Dungey’s school record, but also notes that this is just the fourth time the conference has had a QB gain 200 yards on the ground. The game also moved the Lake Oswego, Ore. native to third all-time for rushing yards by a QB in school history (1,439).
Future Syracuse opponents also got praise for the week one performances. Tremayne Anchrum (Clemson) and Chris Lindstrom (Boston College) were named co-offensive linemen of the week. NC State’s Jakobi Meyers walked away with receiver of the week, Pittsburgh’s Maurice Ffrench earned specialist of the week while Wake Forest wide out Sage Surratt earned rookie of the week.
For those hoping to see Jamal Custis on this list after an impressive six catches for 168 yards and two scores, you’ll understand the omission when you see that Meyers caught 14 passes on Saturday (despite totaling fewer yards and zero touchdowns).
Congrats to Dungey. And hope this is the first of many awards this year.
