The Syracuse Orange are on the road for the first time since August 31, so they’re breaking out the white jerseys for the first time since the opener against Western Michigan.
When SU visits the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, they’ll be sporting orange helmets, with white jerseys and white pants.
Once again, a decidedly orange look for Syracuse, which is appreciated. SU’s worn an orange helmet for three of the five games now, and two orange uniform elements in all but one game. We’ll excuse that one instance (last week’s blue/orange/blue look vs. UConn) because they wore orange jerseys in the process.
This orange/white/white look is notable since the Orange haven’t worn it since 2015 — a road loss at Louisville. They also lost the two other times they’ve worn this exact combo, back-to-back losses to Pitt and BC to end the 2014 season.
Of note, SU is 10-21 while wearing orange helmets since the start of 2014, winning two straight. They’re just 5-14 in white jerseys, winning the most recent game against WMU. And the white pants are 3-10 with two straight losses (2017 at Miami and 2016 vs. Florida State at home).
I do wonder if the orange helmets for both teams create some issues throwing downfield, but it’s probably fine. How do we feel about this look?
