Syracuse wearing blue helmets, orange jerseys (plus camo ‘S’ decal) vs. UConn

No word on jerseys/pants yet, however...

The Syracuse Orange usually release images of the upcoming weekend’s football uniforms by Wednesday or Thursday. But this week, there’d been curiously little word about what SU would be wearing against the Connecticut Huskies.

UPDATE: Syracuse officially released the full uniform set on Friday afternoon

Blue helmets with a camo block ‘S’ detail are the call, in honor of Military Appreciation Day at the Carrier Dome. The Orange will also be honoring Joe Morris this weekend, as you’d already heard. So busy weekend ahead for when UConn comes to town...

The rest of the duds feature orange jerseys and blue pants. Syracuse last wore the blue/orange/blue look against Clemson last year (and we all recall how that game ended), and they’ve only worn this combination one other time — a win in the 2016 opener vs. Colgate.

For past military appreciation days, we’ve gone pretty heavy on blue/#PLATINUM elements. We last wore a dark camo block ‘S’ in 2016 against NC State (a loss). We also sported the Fort Drum-themed ‘44’ crest on the helmet in last year’s loss to Wake Forest at the Dome.

SU’s just 3-7 in blue helmets since the start of 2014, losing their last two (Wake and BC in 2017) after besting Clemson. They’re 7-4 in orange jerseys, with four straight wins including the past two weeks this season. Syracuse is just 4-8 in the blue pants, though, with the most recent win also coming via the aforementioned Clemson upset.

What do you think? I was dreading #PLATINUM, and you were probably were too. So it’s cool to see things go in a decidedly different direction. Either SU Athletics is listening to fans, or we’re going to see a whole lot of non-orange looks in the second half of the season. For now, we’ll cross our fingers for the former.
