Another big win for the Syracuse Orange means our friends down on Tobacco Road take notice with some weekly awards. For the first time this season, ‘Cuse has multiple players recognized by the ACC.
The three Orange standouts are:
- Linebacker - Keilan Whitner: The senior racked up a career-high 11 tackles (eight solo) and forced a fumber. While Whitner didn’t get in on the party, the Orange defense created tons of pressure and sacked Florida State’s Deondre Francois four times on Saturday.
- Specialist - Andrew Szmyt: The redshirt freshman recorded 12 of Syracuse’s 30 points, connecting on three of four field goal attempts (all within 25 yards) and all three of his PATs.
- Rookie - Tommy DeVito: Probably the most expected of the three, DeVito came off the bench for the third consecutive game. This time, Eric Dungey was not available and DeVito played like a man ready to win a competition. The redshirt freshman went 11-of-16 for 144 yards, a touchdown and added another score on the ground.
Syracuse matched Boston College with three recognized players on the weekly ACC award list. Overall, a nice cap to a game where the Orange really did deserve the W in every sense of the phrase. Also, another strong reminder of the weird reality we currently live in where SU and BC may be the two best non-Clemson teams in the Atlantic Division...
