After a pretty standard approach to the first two games of the 2018 season in terms of uniforms, the Syracuse Orange appear to be mixing it up a bit for this wekeend’s matchup against the Florida State Seminoles.

Syracuse will be donning white helmets, orange jerseys and orange pants on Saturday — with the additional wrinkle of the orange chrome facemasks, which were introduced last season against LSU. Coincidentally, that game down in Baton Rouge was also the first (and only) time the Orange have worn this white/orange/orange combination. As you know, they lost that game, 35-26 last fall.
The most surprising thing about this set is probably the fact that we’re wearing white helmets at home, a game location usually reserved for the more colorful elements of our uniform set. Since the start of 2014, we’ve only worn white helmets at home twice — a 2014 loss to Maryland and a 2016 loss to this same Florida State program.
Overall, SU is 4-7 with the white helmets, and 0-2 with the chrome facemask, having worn it against both LSU and Miami in 2017. We’re a surprising 6-4 in the orange jerseys, though (with two straight wins, versus Pitt and Clemson in ‘17). And 9-12 in the orange pants, which we’ve worn in each of the first two games this year (both wins) and now in five of the last seven games, including this one.
It’s not necessarily “traditional” by any means. But it’s also nice that we’re wearing a bit more orange this year so far. It’s the third straight game that Syracuse has worn two orange uniform elements. So either we’re going to look more ORANGE in 2018, or we’ll be in all-#PLATINUM and blue in the second half of the year...
For those curious, FSU will be wearing their typical gold/white/gold road set.
