Syracuse vs. UConn kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on ESPNews

Perhaps surprisingly, this game’s getting national TV treatment.

NCAA Football: Syracuse at Connecticut Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

The Syracuse Orange’s September 22 game against the Connecticut Huskies will start at 4 p.m. ET, according to an announcement from the ACC. ESPNews will air the contest, making it the third national broadcast for Syracuse in the first four games.

Considering how poorly UConn has played thus far, it’s almost surprising ESPN would want this game to see the light of day. After falling to UCF 56-17 in the opener, they were stomped 62-7 by Boise State this past weekend. Granted, both of those teams are top 25 opponents, so perhaps Bristol’s willing to give them a pass. The Huskies have a much more winnable game this weekend, against Rhode Island.

Syracuse, as you know, is 2-0 so far, with high-scoring wins over Western Michigan and Wagner. They’ll face Florida State this weekend with a chance to get to 3-0 for the first time since 2015 (“24 years!”).

UConn last faced the Orange in 2016 — a 31-24 win for SU that looked much closer by score than it actually was on the field. Before that, the teams’ last Big East matchup was a 40-10 victory for Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. That said, SU is just 4-6 against UConn since 2004.

Plenty more to discuss around that game come next week. If Syracuse is unbeaten going in, it could make for quite a home crowd, even against the struggling Huskies.
