Get to Know Your Orange Man: #2, QB Eric Dungey

One final year for Dungey to break hearts and hurdle defenders

NCAA Football: ACC Media Days Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Eric Dungey

Position: Quarterback

Year: Senior

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 226

Hometown: Lake Oswego, Ore.

High School: Lakeridge

2017 stats: Despite missing the final three games of the season for the Syracuse Orange (and being injured during at least one other contest), Dungey threw for 2,495 yards and ran for another 595. He completed 59.7 percent of his throws and ended up with 14 touchdowns through the air (versus nine picks - though four were against Miami alone) plus nine on the ground.

2018 projections: I would love to say that Eric lasts the full season, so assuming he does (that’s a big if), I could see him throwing for 3,400 yards and running for 400, with 30 total scores. A lot of this banks on an improved offensive line, and him running less (and smarter).

How’d he get here?: Dungey had just one Power Five offer -- Syracuse -- and chose the Orange over schools like Colorado State, UNLV, Nevada, Air Force and Wyoming. Harvard and Yale also offered.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars -- though we’d have given him five.

Money quote: Dungey spoke to Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey about the legacy he wants to leave with the Orange --

”People always try to say, ‘You’ve got to get six wins. But how can you go into a season like, ‘All right, we’re going to lose this game and that game?’ That’s never been my motto. I want to win every game and I think we’re on the cusp. We’ve just got to get some younger guys to step up and I think we’ve got big things coming.”

Tweets of wonder: I’ll take the 15-yard penalty every single time if Dungey pulls one of these in-game:

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: I’m sure both Dino and Eric have seen “Friday Night Lights” -- both the movie and show -- but why not double down and watch it again? I know Dino Babers is bigger on movies than shows, but I’d pay a subscription fee to see what his Netflix queue is.

Interesting nugget o’interest: As mentioned above, Dungey had an offer from Wyoming. And him passing it up landed the Cowboys Josh Allen… who ended up being a top-10 pick for the Buffalo Bills this past spring.
