Syracuse Orange athletics have already entered year six in the ACC, with men’s and women’s soccer, plus field hockey, getting going in the last week. Football starts on Friday, and other sports get going shortly as well.
Along with what’s next, the occasion also gives us a glimpse at what happened over the course of the last five years in our new league. The Daily Orange spoke to many of the biggest names involved in those successes (and then one, DOCTOR Gross, who was just part of how we got there).
Some of the best moments, from my point of view: Justyn Knight’s entire career, SU’s national titles in cross country and field hockey, the 2013 Texas Bowl, and of course, the 2016 Final Four runs for men’s and women’s basketball. Beating Clemson was also great, obviously.
What have been your favorite moments so far, though?

Still, Cooney wonders if Fair’s play was a block or a charge. He still watches the play now and realizes it could have easily gone the other way. The Orange were in the midst of a record-breaking season where they began 25-0. A win at Cameron Indoor Stadium could have swept the season series against the historic Duke team in SU’s first year in the new conference.

I was by far the youngest person in the infusion cancer center. The treatments started on a Monday morning, a quick 30-minute surgery during which a nurse installed a PICC line into my heart for easy delivery of the chemotherapy drugs. Then my mom and I went go upstairs, and I sat in a big reclining chair while a different nurse — my assigned personal care nurse for the day — hooked me up to an IV and pumped me full of fluids.

“Talking about it over with my group, we felt confidently that the G League wasn’t going to be needed and now I can use this time to work on my craft,” Bazley told The Athletic. “It’s mainly me talking to [agent] Rich [Paul], he knows so much, and whenever he speaks my ears perk up.”

12. Dino Babers, Syracuse: Babers has to be the only coach in college football, if perhaps the only person on the planet, to use the phrase “baloney cheese.” As in, when describing the platitudes coaches spew every summer about the strength of their respective conferences, “This is no baloney cheese for me. This conference (the ACC) is a real football conference.” What does it mean? Who knows.
Syracuse basketball recruiting: Isaiah Stewart trims, SU makes offers (Inside the Loud House)
On Friday night, coveted 2019 big man Isaiah Stewart took to Twitter to reveal his six finalists, with the Orange among those staying in contention. The half-dozen remaining programs that the five-star center is considering are Duke, Indiana, Michigan State, Syracuse, Villanova, which has captured two of the past three national titles, and Washington, which is led by former Orange assistant Mike Hopkins.
