Name: James Cherry
Position: Wide Receiver
Year: Freshman
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 170
Hometown: Philadelphia, Pa.
High School: St. Joseph’s Prep
2017 stats: He was an all-league receiver last season with 25 catches, for 332 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was also a punt returner, taking two to the house last year. Not bad seeing he missed 3 games with injury.
2018 projections: Redshirt is the likely option. Wideout is a real full position for the Syracuse Orange and as a freshman walk on, it’ll be an uphill battle.
How’d he get here?: Cherry was initially a commit to Robert Morris University, where he was ready to play along with some of his former teammates. He ended up flipping over to the Orange after developing a relationship with offensive coordinator Mike Lynch.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Nada.
Money quote: From an interview with Nate Mink, regarding his decision to come to Cuse:
“Several factors played in my decision, but it was based largely on the prestige and academic reputation of Syracuse, the broad resources of the alumni base, and finally, me wanting to explore an opportunity to challenge myself on a different level of football and competition.”.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: Actress Cherry Jones has been in quite a few films over the years, but Dino would probably go with “The Perfect Storm,” and its ideas about battling seemingly insurmountable odds.
Interesting nugget o’interest: When Cherry was committed to Robert Morris, he would have been on the squad with former teammates Dejuan Dandridge and Devon Dickerson. Three teammates from the same high school seems uncommon at the college level, especially at a spot like RMU.
Let’s get a good look at ya: Hudl!
