Jim Boeheim returns all his starters

In College hoops today, Coaches are having to deal with early entrance to the NBA/Europe and constant transferring of players. Every now and then there is an actual Senior graduating. Rosters are re-orchestrated every off-season. This off- season is quite different for SU. Coach Boeheim is returning all his players except Matthew Moyer. The transfer of Moyer, of course, was expected after Matt’s, father, Fred, got involved with the course of action his son would take prior to playing in an ACC contest. I think we all all know how JB felt about the involvement of Fred. Matt never started another game for SU after being the starter almost the entire season prior to the incident. Going forward, the loss of Matt will not impact the program one bit. Worth mentioning is the de-commitment of Darius Bazley. He would have been a single season star at SU but he will never get the chance to be an Orangemen now or in the future.
With the return of the five end of the season starters, Howard, Battle, Brisett, Dolezaj and Chuckwu, and the other three players who were with the program last season, Sidibe, Washington, and Hughes, SU brings to the table 8 players with SU experience. Some would argue that Buddy Boeheim, the son of the Coach, could be added to that list and you really have 9 players with knowledge to the Syracuse way of operating. Add in Carey and the Bazley replacement, late addition Braswell and SU only has 2 players who will need time to adjust to Coach Boeheim and his system.
All told, it looks like Coach Boeheim will have 11 players available to him for the upcoming season. This of course, is an assumption that all 11 players are healthy. Sidibe and Washington are coming off of injuries which required surgery so we must wait and see if they are ready to go in October. Coach Boeheim is not going to go 11 deep, I think everyone should know that by now. He prefers to go 8 deep, that is his ideal number. He will stretch it to 9, like he did in 2012, but that is a rarity. I am going to base my estimations of minutes played this season with 11 healthy players. I am going to take into account what I have witnessed over the years, things like Coach Boeheim favors defense over offense, he does not usually trust freshmen, he likes a short bench, he will protect his players and use injury’s as reasons for redshirting. Below is my prediction of minutes for each player in the 5 or 6 out of conference games that matter and the ACC conference. Minutes are not to be skewed with the 7 or 8 games against Colgate’s of the World.
Battle 34 minutes SG
Howard 32 minutes PG/SG
Carey 12 minutes PG/ SG
Brisett 33 minutes SF/PF
Dolezaj 26 minutes PF/C
Hughes 24 minutes SF/SG
Chuckwu 28 minutes C
Sidibe 10 minutes C
Braswell 1 minute PF
