Name: AJ Calabro
Position: Defensive backs
Year: Freshman
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 180
Hometown: Farmingdale, N.J.
High School: Saint John Vianney
2017 Stats: Had 50 tackles and two picks last year for Saint John Vianney, which ended up finishing 10-1 last season. Calabro was 2017 Shore Conference Class A Central Division First Team and Two River Times All-Area First Team as well.
2018 Projections: Seems pretty likely to redshirt for the Syracuse Orange. With a good amount of young scholarship defensive backs competing for time this year, they’ll probably get first dibs on getting to the field.
How Did He Get Here?: Decided he’d rather be a preferred walk-on at Syracuse, than a scholarship player at Wagner or Pace. If he’d chosen the Seahawks, we could’ve ended up seeing him this fall on the opposite sideline.
What Did Recruiting Sites Say?: N/A. Their loss.
Money Quote: His former athletic director shares some quick thoughts:
“He’s a very intelligent young man and he realizes that he wants to put his academics first. He and his family were thrilled about Syracuse. They loved the opportunity to go to school there.”
Twitter feed: @AJ_Calabro
Tweets of Wonder: AJ wants to get into a music debate with the TNIAAM staff, I see...

What Movie Would Dino Recommend for Him?: After his time on “Melrose Place,” Thomas Calabro appeared in a number of lesser films, including 2010’s “Detention” — a horror movie about kids in detention encountering ghosts and their own untimely deaths. The moral of the story (probably): Behave yourself in class, kids.
Interesting Nugget O’Interest: Saint John Vianney went 31-3 while Calabro was there... hopefully Syracuse can compile a similar mark while he’s on the Hill.
Let’s Get a Good Look Atcha: Best we could find is this one interception clip.
