Name: Antwan Cordy
Position: Nickel Cornerback
Year: (Redshirt) Senior
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 177 lbs.
Hometown: Homestead, Fla.
High School: South Dade
2017 stats: After going down for the year in the second game of 2016, he caught even worse luck in 2017, going down for the count with a leg injury in the season opener against Central Connecticut State. He picked up one tackle before getting hurt.
2018 projections: It’s been an eventful offseason for Cordy. After experimenting at wide receiver during spring practice and finally moving back to defense, Dino Babers has switched up the defensive scheme and Cordy will play the new nickel cornerback position. Antwan previously played free safety and was considered to basically be a linebacker in a defensive back’s body, so slotting him here makes a lot of sense.
How’d he get here?: Duke and number of G5 schools vied for his talents, but in the end Cordy committed to the Syracuse Orange.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Only two stars. The Blue Devils offer must’ve damaged his stock.
Money quote: Couldn’t agree more, Coach.
“The last two years he hasn’t been able to finish the season, and from a special teams and an offensive or defensive standpoint, we need to get him to finish the season just like we need (quarterback Eric) Dungey to finish the season.”

Tweets of wonder: Some good footage of Antwan during his WR experiment. He goes third and is wearing the green jersey.

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: We’ll go with Denzel’s 2002 drama Antwone Fisher. Inspired by a true story, it’s all about putting painful past results (like Cordy’s injury) behind you, and finding new beginnings. Does this sound familiar? We used it last year, but it just fits so well (and also there aren’t very many movies featuring title characters or actors named variants of Antwan).
Interesting nugget o’ interest: Antwan was recently named as a member of Bruce Feldman’s annual College Football Freaks List for 2018.
Let’s get a good look at ya: Highlight tape from his last full season for the Orange back in 2015.
