Get to Know Your Orange Man: #36, LB/DE Tim Walton

The reserve defensive lineman should play more of a role this year

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Tim Walton

Position: Edge Rusher (listed as a linebacker but played defensive end)

Year: (Redshirt) Sophomore

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 230

Hommetown: Detroit, Mich.

High School: Cass Tech

2017 stats: Played in two games and made one tackle (against Central Michigan).

2018 projections: He wasn’t listed on the March depth chart, so he probably won’t see a ton of playing time. But, it is reasonable to expect him to get more action than last year’s minimal snaps — especially given the turnover at linebacker in 2018.

How’d he get here: He originally committed to Illinois, but right before signing day, he switched to Syracuse. Cincinnati, and a ton of MAC teams also offered him.

What’d recruiting sites say: Everyone labeled him as a three-star recruit.

Money quote: Dino Babers assessed this year’s group of linebackers in the spring —

“I see youth. I see guys making mistakes. I see a lot of young men getting opportunities to play that haven’t had an opportunity to play in the past because they couldn’t move those guys out of the way.”

Tweets of wonder: I can tell you it’s much more brutal in Virginia. That being said, he’s not wrong.

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: The 2014 romantic comedy, “Think Like a Man Too,” stars David Walton and is directed by Tim Story. Never watched it, but it might be good. Who knows?

Interesting nugget o’interest: His father played football for Ball State and also spent some time in the NFL with the Bengals, Lions, and Eagles in the early 1990s.

Let’s get a good look at ya: Here’s a video of him signing with the Syracuse Orange in 2016.
