Get to Know Your Orange Man: #11, QB Clayton Welch

Don’t forget about the (redshirt) junior passer...

NCAA Football: Syracuse at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Clayton Welch

Position: Quarterback

Year: (Redshirt) Junior

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 235

Hometown: Chico, Calif.

High School: Chico

2017 stats: None. He was played in zero games for the Syracuse Orange. Only stat he recorded was +1 scholarship in the offseason, so that’s nice.

2018 season projections: Welch probably won’t see any minutes this season either, but never say never. He did look capable in the spring game action he saw, and his height is promising.

How’d he get here?: He spent two years at JUCO Butte College in Oroville, California before transferring to the Orange. After redshirting, he led the Roadrunners to the conference championship as a freshman, garnering team MVP honors.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Unrated.

Money quote: Regarding his commitment to Syracuse -

“My goal is to go in there and just do what I’ve always done,” Welch said. “If I don’t get it, just be the best teammate I can be and do what’s best for the team.”

Tweets of wonder: A whole lot of RTs and birthday wishes. We’ll go with this -

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him?: As a lover of all cinema, Babers may hit the way back machine and opt for 1956’s The Lone Ranger, staring Clayton Moore in the title role.

Interesting nugget o interest: Chico, CA, his hometown, is also home to a few quality QBs, namely the Rogers brothers. They also house Sierra Nevada. I think I like this place.

Let’s get a good look at ya: HUDL! From his JUCO days
