Syracuse football recruiting; Texas safety Dorian Hewett commits to Orange

SU continues to add bodies to the secondary.

NCAA Football: Central Michigan at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

After a torrid June, it had been almost three weeks since the Syracuse Orange football program had added a recruit for 2019. That is, until Saturday afternoon:

CuseNation was the first to report the news of Dorian Hewett’s commitment, coming off a strong camp performance up at Syracuse the same day. According to CuseNation, Hewett, an unranked (at the moment) safety from Houston’s North Shore High School, was the fastest player at camp with a 4.40 40-yard dash. He stands at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, and the only other offer on record is from Texas A&M Commerce (DII). We’ll see if that changes, however...

Hewett is the ninth member of the class of 2019 so far, and third defensive back, joining Adrian Cole and Cornelius Nunn. He’s the first player from Texas in this year’s class, though it would seem likely he’s joined by at least another name or two at some point. From the 2018 class, Chance Amie and Tre Allison were both from Texas. New QB coach Kirk Martin and his son, starting offensive tackle Koda Martin, are also form the Lone Star State.

Welcome aboard, Dorian. Highlights below:
