Get to Know Your Orange Man: #19, WR Tyler Gilfus

He used to throw passes, now he’s catching them

NCAA Football: Central Michigan at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Tyler Gilfus

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: (Redshirt) Sophomore

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 199

Hometown: Cape Vincent, N.Y.

High School: Thousand Islands

2017 Stats: Played in two games. Caught one pass for 11 yards against Central Connecticut.

2018 projections: Gilfus is not expected to see a lot of action at the receiver position, but the former quarterback could see action on special teams.

How’d he get here: Tyler joined the Syracuse Orange as a preferred walk-on. He was originially offered by Scott Shafer and had the PWO offer honored by Dino Babers. Tyler joined Syracuse in January 2016 after five years as a starter at Thousand Islands.

What’d recruiting sites say?: 3 stars across the board.

Money Quote: “He’s always dreamed of being a member of the Orange,” Joe Gilfus said, “so this is big for him.”

Twitterfeed: @TylerGilfus

Tweets of wonder: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”- Mookie Jones

What movie would Dino recommend for him: Since Tyler’s got a thing for Anne Hathaway, Dino’s going to suggest “The Intern”. The 2015 film features Hathaway as a fashion retailer founder who brings on a 70-year old intern, played by Robert DeNiro.

Interesting nugget o’interest: The Thousand Islands school district is located along the St. Lawrence River which is how Dino Babers navigates his way north into Canada to mine under the radar recruits.
