Get to Know Your Orange Man: #87, WR Sharod Johnson

After traveling with the team for all of 2017, he’ll get a shot to be on the field in 2018.

NCAA Football: Central Michigan at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Sharod Johnson

Position: Wide receiver

Year: (Redshirt) Freshman

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 170

Hometown: Miami, Fla.

High School: Booker T. Washington

2017 Stats: N/A — he redshirted while traveling with the team and serving as Steve Ishmael’s backup at outside receiver.

2018 projections: According to the early spring depth chart, Johnson’s second at one of the Syracuse Orange’s outside spots behind Jamal Custis. Given Custis’s injury history, however, it would seem likely Johnson sees the field a bit. Plus, Custis was moved to the inside during spring ball.

How’d he get here? Offers from Appalachian State, Miami (OH) and Toledo weren’t enough to pry him away from the Orange.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Everyone said three stars, and ESPN had him listed as a top 100 receiver in the 2017 class.

Money quote: When he committed to Syracuse, he said it was his “Dream School.”

“My reaction to the offer, in my head was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m getting n offer from a school that’s always been my dream school.’”

Tweets of wonder: Some brief highlights.

What movie would Dino Babers recommend for him? How about 1946 comedy/mystery “The Runaround,” starring Rod (for Sharod) Cameron? The film follows maverick private eyes as they track down a rich guy’s wealthy daughter.

Interesting Nugget O’Interest: A member of Johnson’s family is/was good friends with former Orange defensive back Durell Eskridge, which certainly helped sell SU a bit.

Let’s get a good look at ya: Some more highlights for you to glance at.
